Stretching gracefully over charming hills, Edinburgh is like a tableau vivant, where medieval facades meet modern-day shops. The charm of the past is omnipresent: the mystical aura of the castle dominates the horizon, while the cobbled streets of the old town are full of secrets. The sound of bagpipes floats through the air, accompanying the steps of the curious as they explore the antique shops and cosy cafés. Edinburgh, much more than a capital city, is urban poetry, capturing the timeless essence of Scotland. The Edinburgh Festival, like a cultural firework display, lights up the city every summer. Theatres are alive with moving stories and street performers turn every corner into a stage for the ages. The city has many fascinating museums where art lovers can satisfy their curiosity. Traditional Scottish pubs, known as 'taverns', tell legends through dark wooden walls and the many whiskies on offer, reflecting the peaty soil of the highlands. At dusk, the panorama from Arthur's Seat, an ancient extinct volcano, sets the town ablaze with a palette of colours, for one of the splendid sunsets often seen in Scotland. The Scottish countryside and seafront are revealed beyond the horizon, offering a natural getaway at your fingertips. Further afield, the Highlands and their many haunted castles open their arms to you.
